The Leadership Challenge

The Leadership Challenge is one of the most influential books available on the subject. The first edition was published in 1987 and is considered by the authors and practitioners as, “a field guide for leaders.” Since the initial publication over 30-years ago more than 2.5 million copies have reached the hands of leaders just like you in 20 different languages.

The authors have examined 10s of thousands of “Personal Best Leadership Stories” from nearly every industry and without question have identified Five Practices of Exemplary Leaders. Each of these five practices are reinforced by two commitments and six behaviors.

The Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI)

The LPI is a 360 assessment tool used by leaders at every level of the chain of command to asses how frequently they exhibit each of the 30 leadership behaviors that make up the five practices. The leader’s scores are then compared to every other score in the database. Practicing each behavior more frequently has a direct impact on business results, productivity, retention, and morale.
